Public Corporation Restriction

Texas is the ONLY state

in the nation that allows privately held corporations to own liquor stores while prohibiting publicly traded corporations from doing so.

In order to limit competition for the benefit of a few, the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Code goes a step further by actually redefining what it means to be a public company.

No other retail industry in Texas operates with this public vs. private anti-competitive restriction. The State of Texas should not be picking winners and losers in private industry.  That is the job of competition, not the government. Texas consumers expect and deserve better.
